Last Saturday's (14 Jan) monthly survey yielded a grand total of 92 species. Mid-January can be on the slow side, and it seemed especially so this year with a fair number of species represented but low counts on many birds were recorded by the 9 morning participants and 2 afternoon participants. The afternoon duo even had to struggle to find/tape out a House Wren to add it to the day list, and there were a couple other species that were missed that are usually expected like Yellow-bellied Sapsucker, Blue-headed Vireo and House Finch. Rusty Blackbirds continue to linger on the property with 4 birds found around 1West in the morning and then at least 15 birds in with the blackbird flock in the pecan grove around the CER building in the afternoon. Another highlight is the continuing presence of an Audubon's (Yellow-rumped) Warbler in the CER parking lot area, that is here for at least its 2nd winter. Full list for the day follows:
